If you use asterisks in swear words e.g. f**k, you're forcing the reader to swear for you. If you won't say it yourself, don't use it. !gop

@120new hadn't thought of it like that. Good point. I'm always in two minds about it. Don't want to offend people who find it offensive.

@davidmarsden The asterisks just hide the letters, not the meaning. If someone is offended by "fuck", they'll be offended by "f**k", surely?

@davidmarsden I mean, you're relying on them to know you mean "fuck", not "fisk" or whatever, so you *are* swearing, just not admitting it.

@120new I'm with you, if you are going to swear, just do it. Don't censor yourself. There's enough people out there who'll do it for you.

@tg Actually, I'd be happier if nobody (except me) ever swore at all :) But if it happens, asterisks don't change the fact it's swearing.

@120new Exactly. I try to avoid swearing as I generally wouldn't swear out loud on a bus, and I consider µblogging similar.

@tg Some people are offended by it in any context. Best to use it sparingly for maximum and worthwhile effect, which is what I normally do.
