Weighing in on the Unity/Gnome 3 debate. In !Ubuntu 11.04, Unity clearly works better on a netbook. More adjustment for icons.

The HP-Mini110 LOVES !Ubuntu 11.04. Unity interface working well...as long as I don't put !Gnome 3 on it at the same time.

Change in !Virtualbox version to 4.0.6 makes a difference to !Ubuntu 11.04 Beta. And 2-d Unity this version looks great.
