The best warranty disclaimer I've ever seen is that of the !BusyBox Web site: http://ur1.ca/7qplc !FS

I'm sorry to tell Bruce again, as I've said to his face, the thing that we think about as !BusyBox is Erik Andersen's vision, not Bruce's.

@bkuhn does https://lwn.net/Articles/456243/ mean what I think it means? that the gplv2 death penalty is meaningless?
-
@bkuhn As I said to @jospoortvliet that system would seem to invalidate all licence changes; not just the GPL?
-
-
Peter Vescuso recommends managers/lawyers choose b/w #BusyBox and #Toolbox (based on license), not developers (technical basis). #BlackDuck
-
@bkuhn one reason I was able to come up with was that they can stick proprietary bits in non-GPL software and not tell anyone about them.

!BusyBox 1.19.0 (dev) has been released

Headed upstairs soon for a hearing in !Conservancy & #Andersen's current !GPL violation lawsuit re: !BusyBox. I still enjoy going to Court.
-
@bkuhn have I mentioned that worries me?
-
@fontana, I'm confused: what does doing !GPL enforcement have the #Establishment? The Establishment opposes GPL enforcement!
-
@fontana,ah,you meant "holding court", not the federal district. Yes, members of the #Establishment do hold court. I've been known to, even.
-
-
@webmink, you're misrepresenting !FSF's position. FSF has published various suggestions for for-profit ©AAs to make them similar to FSF's.
about a year ago from web-
@tedks, only way it works is if you form an org to be a !copyright enforcement agent. e.g., !Conservancy does this for !BusyBox re: !GPLv2.
-
@bkuhn err, that's not how I understand GPLv3 section 11. initial © holder fits “contributor” definition, thus grants patent license

@fontana Right now, legalese is the tool we've got for engineering away the inequality. I hope we can build better tools in the future.
about a year ago from web-
@fontana Because the designer put it there by default. Waiting on a decision from the group about CC licensing for the website content.
-
@allisonrandal CC0 license seems obvious given there is no "Project Harmony" entity.
-
@fontana Copyright on the website content is owned by the people who contributed it. (No contrib agreement yet for Harmony contributors.)

#yoctoproject panel is beginning. Collaboration just makes sense for embedded Linux, says panelists. #linux #lfcollab
-
Good pt by #yocotoproject: Ppl chose !Android b/c it's popular,when they'd do better w/ traditional embedded !Linux-based system. #lfcollab
-
Hrm, absolutely no Q&A allowed at the #yoctoproject keynote. My opportunity to troll regarding !GPL compliance stuff is gone. #lfcollab
-
@bkuhn As is their opportunity to learn.
-
-
@fontana, I don't think the !GPLv2 is by itself a #CLA. I think if what I write when posting patches to !BusyBox was required, it'd be CLA.
about a year ago from web -
@fontana, #Brock said once to me: !GPL enforcement can only be done in EU if ©AA exists. I pointed to @laforge et al & she changed subject.

@bkuhn You could be onto something there...

@fontana, One can basically require just about anything for reinstatement of rights per !GPLv2 §4. !BusyBox for its part prefers GPLv2-only.

@bkuhn he only has to get it. They probably picked the gpl2d versions for that reason
-
@tekk, !GPLv2 requires "scripts to control installation". It's not as different from what GPLv3 requires as some think. http://ur1.ca/0q7d0

Ok, it seems that there is a GPL violation on my eBook reader. Vendor offers much of the source code, but not all.

!GPL violations are everywhere:At new !Conservancy office space, landlord just bought 3 brands of security cameras, all of which are violating

Discussion (started at http://ur1.ca/2brtn ) on !BusyBox ML sadly got mildly heated. Hopefully new post ( http://ur1.ca/2brtr ) quells that.

So would BusyBox/Linux be the correct complement to GNU/Linux? !linux
-
@michaeldexter, I quite typically call embedded systems that are based on !Linux but use #uClibc & !BusyBox by the moniker BusyBox/Linux.
