Colemak Keyboard Layout (colemak) group

If !OLPC is meant to be intuitive for children who have never used a computer before, can the next version ship with !colemak or !dvorak ?
about a month ago from web- Danny Piccirillo likes this.
- Klarth Cidolfas repeated this.
-
windows is another example, but not as obvious as flash
-
@openuniverse how can a keyboard layout be proprietary?
-
@jrick it would have to be copyrighted or patented, the way the dewey decimal system is. if either seem…
-
@openuniverse well copyrighted or patented != proprietary, but I highly doubt the dvorak layout is either
-
-
Do !Dvorak keyboard users really find it makes a difference? I still get RSI, was going to give up, but using QWERTY again, RSI gets worse.

@trombonechamp I simply got used to it after a month or so. At least you don't have to worry about hjkl nonsense :)
-
@trombonechamp dunno about !colemak/#emacs, but !dvorak/!vim seems to work well, with j/k close and h/l on the correct sides of the hand
-
@trombonechamp I found emacs keybindings in !colemak better than the querty ones, just use them! (but in vim they were terrible for me!)
-
-
@mjjzf: !esperanto !colemak and !freesoftware overlap for me, and there were quite a few dvorak people in the esperanto channel at freenode.

@samarthur he i make my own !dvorak layout, i put the most used symbols for software dev where i can reach them easily, and im very happy =)
-
@dread I'm planning on switching over eventually as well, my pod-mate switched last week, sent me the comic - awesome! 45 wpm to 90 - WTF?!?
-
@dread it almost took me a week to get used to it. after a month i could write at an acceptable speed (40wpm)

Tried !Emacs and !Vim but I have to go with Emacs. I'm using the !Colemak keyboard layout, and the cursor movement in Vim is uncomfortable.

@dhraakellian That's true. I found it right after I said that. Now I am having another thought ... Thank you!
-
I wonder if I should try switching from !Dvorak to !Colemak at some point. Does Colemak have any advantage for one already free of #QWERTY?
-
@dhraakellian I did so because of improvements in programming, and because of ZXCV keys for the most part. Some of the typing is challenging
-
@dhraakellian I tried both but for me !Colemak was better, because with Dvorak I easily had some pain on the right hand. Too right-oriented.
-
-
@skreech2 ^w is too close to ^q for my tastes... (on qwerty, other layouts have other issues)
-
@dhraakellian Interesting, I never heard of that one. Will look into it.
-
@dhraakellian Then i'd propose the same key (would be ",", I guess) if you are using dvorak. !kde

I wonder if !colemak would allow me to type these 140 characters messages in one minute. That would be pretty impressive. Take that QWERTY!!
