Crunchbang just got slashdotted: http://linux.slashdot.org/story/13/05/09/175211/debian--openbox--crunchbang-linux-video
-
@windigo @corenominal Its a good kind of lag. ;)
-
@nybill @corenominal We've got your back, man - torrents seeding at full tilt. :)
-
I hope we get a new !crunchbang fairly soon on the heels of wheezy.
about 22 days ago from web-
@vanden yes, but but! my !crunchbang setup on Sofia is not even complete yet! (though quite usable already)
-
@marjoleink Incomplete in what sense? You've yet to tweak it fully? I've never had a complete install of anything ever by that metric!
-
@vanden not all software that I need installed, and the theme needs tweaks for better legibility, too. I managed just enough for travel

!crunchbang on the netbook, going to start researching a good !ppc distro for my son's iMac g4 !debian !gentoo showdown

Checking in on my server. !crunchbang is running like a champ! (why do I bother to worry about it. :P)

!crunchbang is it possible to have more than 2 virtual desktops with tint2? read all the docs and can't figure it out
-
@marjoleink ctrl+alt and left or right arrows switches desktops. shft+alt and arrows switch taking active window with.
-
@marjoleiink (Graphics work aside) every time I touch the mouse, I die a little bit inside ;-)
-
@vanden Oh, nifty :) And I'm replying from Turpial now - only slightly less lightweight than identicurse /me likes to have options :)
-
-
That !crunchbang no long offers a text installer makes me a bit sad.

OK, jUploadr, while ancient, DOES work on Sofia's !crunchbang (it uses Java). Tested the last release, will also try newer alpha
-
successfully installed Firefox in !crunchbang after purging Iceweasel; now updating the 'launch default browser' mechanisms (as in Debian)
-
@gabrielsaldana yes, diffs in settings and config; also official Mozilla version gives a signal whenever there's an update...
-
@gabrielsaldana ...within a few days there's then a new .deb package in Ubuntuzilla repo
-
@gabrielsaldana so you get a more up-to-date browser and get security updates much sooner
-
-
attempting to install wuala on !crunchbang - it complains it needs default-jre>=1.6 or java6 or java7 :(
-
in other news: Hibernate worked perfectly on my !crunchbang Sofia :)
- Appropedia.org likes this.
-
aha - Gnumeric (oreinstalled in !crunchbang) reads my .ods spreadsheet just fine - no need to install LibreOffice on my netbook
-
@marjoleink also I think I'll stick with PCManFM as filemanager: it can easily automount USB when inserted, and... !crnchbang
-
@marjoleink ...it supports tabs - that saves a load of screen estate ona netbook! !crunchbang
-
-
I like Thunar, but on !crunchbang USB drives do not seem to auto-mount, they're not even visible. installing pcmanfm
-
installed Leafpad on Sofia - #! comes with Geany installed, which is great, but too heavy for just jotting some notes; Leafpad is light
-
@marjoleink what is nice is that there's a simple GUI menu editor in !crunchbang, as menu isn't updated automatically (easy to forget)
-
-
1 thing I didn't count on: !crunchbang may be lightweight, but actually it's much more work to set up than !debian; sticking with it now
-
@marjoleink Debian can be lightweight too, depending on what you install on it :)
-
@sazius yes... but I'm sticking with my principle of puttnig a different distro on every machine :)
-
@marjoleink I have Debian on all machines, often with different desktop environments. Switching DE is more interesting …

CConf and dBus weirdness with nm-connection-editor persists but nothing else so far :) setting up networking now !crunchbang
-
doing upgrades: in small batches, with occasional reboots - just in case something goes wrong again; so far so good! !crunchbang
-
after all the fsck-ing, I'm giving #! one more try... reinstalling now
-
@marjoleink it looks like that SSD (EeePC 901) just does not support that option! !crunchbang
-
@marjoleink I still have it set for the partitions on the 2nd (16GB) SSD - have yet to see if that causes problems !crunchbang
-
@marjoleink @zinayfuzz @sandersch OTH, using nm-connection-editor still gives the same mess of GConf/dBus errors & warnings !crunchbang
-
-
wonderful - now I not only have a system that has some errors, but a broken / filesystem on the first SSD
-
@erkanyilmaz no, just a new install - I did lose a DAY that I cannot afford to lose. I think I'll try Debian :(
Erkan Yılmaz likes this. -
@marjoleink sorry to hear #! failed you, I'm sure it would work if you had the time. But I understand you don't have the time.
-
Sorry to hear that. We appreciate what you have to go through to get a working system. Something working is better than nothing.
-
-
two down, two to go: I got networking to work, and got rid of a bunch of missing/expired keys messages in Aptitude...
-
@marjoleink ...still have those GConf errors and/or DBus errors (the latter *may* cause the former). :( !crunchbang
-
-
!crunchbang hitting the first snag: I need to set up networking manually but I get 'insufficient privileges'. help?
-
@marjoleink uhmm it seems that these messages relates with the problem but at first sight don't know the way to take
-
@marjoleink you can try to reinstall the aplication or uninstall it and configure manually with "ifconfig" command, have to go, good luck
-
@zinayfuzz thanks for your help - after some poking aruond and several reboots I do now finally have a working network connection
