now we are moving on to FLOM: free and open media

Not all proprietary programs can work with free formats, which seems to exclude them from being able to make free cultural works.

FLOP -- free and open podcasting. What do people think?
-
@douglasawh TOP = Totally Open Podcast ? jk
-
@douglasawh I doubt people would like to describe their work as a flop, as in to fail completely.

Interesting paradox: the "Free Culture" book by @Lessig isn't itself !FreeCulture (as per the Definition of Free Cultural Works).
-
@csolisr ... nor what is described in there is #FreeCulture.
-
-
If we consider !FreeCulture to be "cultural works with source available on free formats", then free culture is something waiting to exist.

I mean, if those who do know about !CC didn't bother enough to relicense as !FreeCulture, that turns me the wrong way.
-
@csolisr I don't think it is binary, but a continuum. CC-NC and CC-ND are still freer than all rights reserved.
-
@csolisr Consider it a growth process and give them some time to grow in their appreciation of free culture.
-
@lnxwalt I know. But until then, I will keep satisfying my urge to half-silently boycott their everything.

There is such rampant !copyfraud online that !Copyleft and !freeCulture licensing are a necessary evil until we manage to abolish !copyright

@sazius Yes, I'm afraid that copyleft is a necessity for software at the moment; I'm still deciding about cultural works #experimentation
-
@laurelrusswurm Yeah, for software you really need the source code, while for cultural works just experiencing might be…
-
@laurelrusswurm Although, to make remixes you really might need the "source code" for cultural works as well...
