#Friendica is not #copyleft (but permissive), that means it invites proprietarization: Binding users with proprietary extensions ☹

that wasn’t so hard to predict: “Apple does not like GPL”, “Apple has lots of money”, “LLVM does not use GPL” → Apple funds LLVM

    • Arne Babenhauserheide Arne Babenhauserheide Dennis Heidsiek

Essentially the LLVM folks found a way to pay developers, and development happens the fastest when you get money and can share.

Since Apple has a strategic interest in beating !GCC, they aren’t likely to start abusing the options they have with LLVM license, *soon*.

@frakturfreund IIRC the !gcc folks faced a similar question when they thought about plugins: http://ur1.ca/dxlkc (from 2007)

I’m currently recompiling my whole system with -lto (link time optimization). Let’s see its effect :) #gcc 4.7 in !gentoo

Here on my system 55 our of 1272 packages need to have LTO disabled to compile, didn't make any performance tests though

@jrepin I had to rebuild 72 of 1829 !gentoo packages without #LTO using !gcc 4.7 - i.e. #qt-gui and !kde libs. All others worked.
