I like how #Kontact minimizes to the system tray when I close it. Is that a new feature? I remember it closing when I used to do that.

Maybe I should have known the TLS SMTP port (587), but I had to install Thunderbird to figure out why #KMail had not been sending e-mail.

@mgraesslin well it ain't that unique! If I let it start, there's usually two kontact instances and if I don't let it start, there's none
-
@fayazbhai this reminds me quantum mechanics ;)

Bah http://ur1.ca/a3p8v I was pretty sure it was right (and now late)

Comparing [mem usage etc. of] !KDE Kontact, Thunderbird and Opera Mail... this is the closest I've came to using a non-free app in years
-
Is there a vnc client that can rotate the screen? !FreeSoftware only, please. Would be helpful for the !N9 and configuring !Kontact Touch.

@reiter: Does it coexist nicely with its big brother? That’d be just what I need on my new N9 :]

I'm getting a little tired of some of KMail's quirks (even with 4.8.3). Any recommendations for other mail clients that play well with !KDE?
about a year ago from Choqok-
@reiter particularly unreliable marking of messages as read (dIMAP/gmail)
-
@dhraakellian @reiter As in you read it and then the messages are not marked? or you manually marking as read?
-
@skreech2 the former. I found a bug report but have yet to comment with my observations
-
-
!kde kontact 4.8.3 seems much improved, the lags of previous versions are mostly gone. Good work kmail devs!

Inspired by @mikesheldon I thought I should probably do a blog post about my !StatusNet client for !MeeGo !N9 too: http://saz.im/blog/yaics/

@sazius @mikesheldon well it's about time!!

OK, cool. Mine doesn't have any dependencies since it's Qt, C++ and QML. Not many features, but works for me :-)

Pulling all of !kontact back together. http://ur1.ca/82t9a What would !KDE like in an RSS reader?

Is that expected behaviour that dbus-daemon is at 1.2 GiB of memory after an upgrade to !kde 4.4? I suspect kmail2 / virtuoso.
-
@toscalix maybe I’ll try to fix it again… not now, though.

Upgrading to !KDE 4.8 RC… please, I just want KMail to suck less

According to #techradar, the best #DE for !GNU !linux atm is !KDE! Hope it will get more support in future distros http://ur1.ca/6tgp6

@bsgraue No problems with #Kubuntu 10.10, but lots installing 11.10. Look also http://ur1.ca/6uanc (sorry, in Italian). Hope solve them soon
-
@gerlos yes but also found !kmail to be the worst E-mail client http://ur1.ca/7bz8x I honestly don't follow all their logic
-
@skreech2 they have obviously tried one of the less-than-good later version of KMail. And I think we all know it has big problems

just noticed there is a lightdm greater project in !kde playground right now that uses QML + Plasma for the UI. nice :)
Monday, 05-Dec-11 00:11:35 UTC from web-
plasma is an early adopter of these kinds of technologies: it pushes more boundaries and needs more of what QML offers.
-
but any application can use QML and we're seeing that start to happen (marble, calligra and kontact touch, e.g.).
-
but using new technologies takes quite a while to happen: it can be a lot of work & there is little benefit for many desktop apps
-
-
Dear #Kmail !kde developers, how about implementing an URL shortener that would help send nice, line lenght limited e-mails with links? ;)
- Cyber Killer likes this.
-
@karsten right. well, in that case I guess we have some new Netiquette rules to iron out, concerning url shortening use generally
-
No url shortner that uses an extra internet connection is usable and private enough, even when it goes through my server.
-
@reiter https? end-to-end encryption solves the privacy issue. besides, do you encrypt your emails? if not, url shortener is not the problem
