There's a bit of latency between different listening stations; more pronounced over WiFi. But it's good enough for @rweait !KWLUG

Used about 25 MBytes per song, 4 GBytes per album. All the old plastic circles are in under-bed storage, never to be seen again. !KWLUG

Squeezelite works great on a Raspberry Pi running Raspbian, too! And so we segue to the !Debian Release Party !KWLUG

@rweait's first sever hardware was an OpenWRT router and an external USB hard drive !KWLUG

For the music server, @rweait used Logitech Media Server (formerly SqueezeCenter, SlimServer). Apt-get for Debian, Ubuntu. !KWLUG

Future improvements: Automate file transfers from ripper to server; use barcode scanner; don't run as root (really!) !KWLUG

Faster drives are faster, so are faster CPUs & more cores. Transcoding to FLAC is the bottleneck, offload to a faster box !KWLUG

Multiple spindles (drives) in one box, Vortexbox will do them all sequentially. Does multi-computer too. !KWLUG

But Vortexbox runs as root (really, dude?!?), one disk at a time, & some scripts are weird. !KWLUG

@rweait chose "ripit" as his solution, then went to Vortexbox (ripit plus scripts, GUI, "Webby", cover art &c.) !KWLUG

"The Fixx" or "Fixx, The"? and what about "The The"? and what about Prince when he was "*" !KWLUG

Audience suggests using symbolic links to access files in more than one way: by performer, composer, conductor, album name !KWLUG

Using FLAC was easy decision; details of directory structure, compilations, multi-disk albums & classical music was more difficult !KWLUG
