As nice as !gnome shell was to try out today I am going back to !lxde so much faster and easier to use.

Distowatch mentioned !Gnome planning to drop fallback mode - but that !Xfce & !Lxde uses parts of it. Which would that be, anyone know?

@marjoleink Exactly my thought. I was wondering if it was just some Gnome libs it compiled in if found, so distros marked it as dep.

@mjjzf one thing I found is that Xfce seems to want Alacarte to edit the apps menu, doesn't have an editor of its own

I've found that REALLY old hardware can't handle most installers, including Ubuntu's. The "alternate install" images should work.

Debian !LXDE gives a new life to my old iBook G4 :). It's *fast*, much faster than Debian Gnome or Ubuntu 12.04.

@mtlben Both #lxde and #xfce work well on older machines. For battery, #conky works, but the setup is tedious. http://conky.sourceforge.net/

Battery indicator problem solved! @gnome-power-manager in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart does the trick.

So, is it common for the !Lxde panel to disappear and reappear within asecond, or is it just on !Fedora?

Dear !Lxde folk: Is it possible to remove 'Applications' in the left-hand shortcut list on PCManFM? I have no use for it there.

Well, I'm kind of getting at that, too. I love KDE, Unity, and even Gnome Shell, but they all fall short for me... :(

Ah, yeah. I loved E17, but there's not enough EFL/Elementary-Canvas apps to natively blend in.

I tried to change from LXDM to !Slim on !Fedora !Lxde, but then I can't shut down. I guess I need some kind of Consolekit integration setup?

Anyone try to use the !Opensuse (Gnome) SLAB menu on other DEs? Know if it is possible? Would be potent with something like !Xfce or !Lxde.
