!Nokia introduces shiny #N9 with no keyboard and tells me that I cant get the #N950 with keyboard. Glad that I still got my !N900.

@whirli I don't understand this !N950 thing, is it just a proof of concept that will given away to a bunch of devs?

@danielmarti It's hard to trust Nokia now, but anyway, the N9 has been planned for a long time, and there are teaser ads for it

    • Daniel Martí Daniel Martí Nokia N950 , JanKusanagi

@jankusanagi Yeah, but my preocupations are that meego (handset) will not get enough support since it will get dropped after the !N950.

How does #WebOS compare to !Maemo / !MeeGo in terms of freedom and (gnu/)linuxyness?

@dhraak no, you can still buy !freerunner (although hardware is much worse, at least OS is fully !freesoftware). I have one as my main phone

@danielmarti @bzar yes and there is speculation about the use of an Intel Atom cpu, like there was for the #n9. !n950

@gbschenkel if the nokia put #Android on phone, that would be a good move.

@danielmarti You are saying different means it's not free. How does Android fail the 4 freedoms?

      • Daniel Martí Daniel Martí Roger Pixley

@skreech2 Firstly, it recommends the use of non-free software. Secondly, it's not copylefted (Apache vs GPL). I can't think of any more now.

      • zeehio zeehio

@danielmarti IMO being copylefted does not make a software + Libre... I can't use GPL code in BSD software, but I can use BSD in GPL.

@mivael It seems like it only works on a few phones, but is it functional? I mean, does it use the whole !linux kernel or just a derivative?

@danielmarti I don't know but if you migrate anyway why not to give a try to 100% free software stack first? #Replicant

@gbschenkel Sorry about that, but most of Nokia's new devices are over 400-500€... At least it won't be as expensive as the WM7 phones!

@danielmarti Actually I don't see how one can have two sliding keyboards like that with a small device. So, yes, perhaps a fake.

@vinc17 Fair point, also recent comments to the page clarify that those are just artwork from some other website. It won't happen again!
