On !FaiFCast 0x29, hear @fontana's #lfcollab 2012 talk entitled "Decline of !GPL" & @bkuhn's & @kaz's comments on it: http://ur1.ca/9ae3s
- Richard Fontana, Mike Linksvayer and Harish Pillay repeated this.
-
I think no one can or will ever replace @rms single-handedly, but thinking of it in those terms is problematic. You're conflating his roles.
-
Nice of you to say that I'm personally so important, but this is really about how underfunded the key non-profits are, not about my own time
-
@bkuhn sounds like your talking about jono bacon to me
-
@bkuhn @mlinksva there is something #disturbing about "community manager" title; relates to my concerns about #TheEstablishment
-
@bkuhn apologies I misread http://identi.ca/notice/93775713 ... I see "community managers" in NPOs often, and also !problematic there
-
@bkuhn also I wonder how often "community managers" really are about volunteer recruitment, whether FP or NPO. Or really just PR.
-
-
@evan I think http://ur1.ca/8g8rl is an elaborate effort to #troll @bkuhn

@evan, it took spammers only ~24 hours to find my unlocked deployment + create an account—which I think means you're to be congratulated :)
-
Did you ever publish your "minimal" GPL header somewhere? c.f. http://ur1.ca/8pwuq
-
The jQuery source code includes the full license text, and http://jquery.org/license links to it.
-
Situation with jQuery seems clear enough. What do you mean with bare reference? I assumed not including full license text with source.
-
@warp I had overlooked that reference to the OSI version of the MIT license.

@pablocastellanos nothing wrong with #GPLv3 , it is the kernel - AFAIK there are too many contributors to ask everyone to change licensing
-
@nnhzkn The GPL3 has additional clauses to prevent the use of things like DRM and other lockin that Linus is okay with.
-
I'll be deeply honest: I'm new to #Yocto myself & it's tough to live-dent stuff one is just learning. More live-denting later this week.

@fontana and footer "a Creative Commons license" is !disturbing; "one of the Creative Commons licenses" would be much better. ;-)

@fontana btw I am sometimes !enraged by gratuitous but non-precise license notice ~watermark on opensource.com article header images...
-
@fontana ... for something overlaying image, http://gondwanaland.com/mlog/2012/01/08/css-text-overlay-attribution/ shows better way
-
@fontana (I do realize individual articles identify a specific license. still, "a CC license" is always at least !problematic)
-
@fontana, any leadership regime or written Constitution is prone to corruption,as we see w/ proprietary relicensing. We must try nonetheless
about 4 months ago from web-
@diablomarcus I have gathered that. I still don't know what was said or how, why, when or where was said.
-
@douglasawh on #faifcast
-
@bkuhn oh, it's such a common one that its lack is something special I guess
-
-
@colin and I had an interesting discussion about the nature of #CC licenses and how Share-Alike doesn't sit well with e…
-
@maiki I think both copyleft and pd important, but use latter myself as I think obscurity bigger threat than non-sharing.
-
@maiki yeah the shorthand tries to express main conditions, not permissions. arguably implied modularity !problematic, but that's what it is

:D <3 ♻ @forteller: Awesome! RT @larre: GoDaddy lost 21,054 domains yesterday in wake of SOPA PR disaster tnw.to/1CMq1 /via @TheNextWeb

@bkuhn glad to hear they did once release code, sad to hear no more, and I guess will eventually be an indistinguishable company...
-
@bkuhn ...I see softwarefreedomconservancy.org and ebb.org are registered at gandi. ∄ a better option currently, eh?

It's rare I opine about licensing on mailing lists anymore, esp. in an official capacity. http://ur1.ca/6ozvj #CC-By-SA #CC #Evergreen

@bkuhn I've yet to see a system that handles versioning as cleanly as VMS.
-
@jasonriedy, VMS versioning was kinda amazing, wasn't it? Too bad it was proprietary software. Presumably kernel handled versioning on it.
-
@bkuhn Yeah, too bad. http://www.freevms.net/
-
-
Yeah, though I'm also annoyed by "share" buttons that treat #diaspora and/or #identica as just more silos, agree with http://ur1.ca/5f4zt …
-
… course "share" buttons are !problematic period.
-
@mlinksva I am generally against share buttons, based on my own actions. I kinda like that everything shared was worth …

A piece of teasing by @robmyers http://robmyers.org/2011/09/29/free-licencing-for-art/ -- you're enjoying this, aren't you now?
about 8 months ago from web-
@robmyers Then you're to be lauded for your patience. (as in #bestservedcold ) - btw, how come I received your answer by Twitter and not SN?
-
@vvillenave because @robmyers uses #gwibber wich last I checked makes it easy to mistakenly reply only there. !problematic

@fontana software/system “defect” is a common term in some software engineering, testing and fault tolerance literature
-
@fontana "Defect" is a "serious software engineering" term. It was the term of choice during my days at IBM.
-
@dbs Yes, IBM, DEC were the names which come to my mind when you say “software defect”.
-
@fontana Quite common in certain software quality management literature. Probably comes from manufacturing industry usage.

@fontana, Anytime a license is unequally given,it's !problematic. That perhaps is too expansive definition of proprietary;I must think on it

This is an exaggeration, but I do find the Linux Action Show very !problematic. ♻ @fontana: "The !Linux Action Show is an #atrocity".
about 9 months ago from web- Steven Rosenberg repeated this.
-
@aseigo Which episode was this in? Really wanna watch.

@aseigo Only to the extend people are open to being helped instead of deliberately spreading misinformation

When first three pages of my home pages on identi.ca is just a discussion between @bkuhn and @fontana, it is The Sign of The End™
-
@tedks exactly what reformist revolts?

@tedks oh doh! I didn't realize what I wrote

@bkuhn @evan is using G+, not same as switching. G+ essentially *is* microblogging http://sngpl.ma/t4DT0

Jon Corbet is taking us back to 1976 with the history of Linux. Great joke, too, about GNU fragrance. #linuxcon
-
@patrickniedzielski, right, that was my point. If #Corbet was giving a history of *Linux* not sure why it dates back to 1976. Agreed re: BSD
-
Not just for !GNU reasons, IMO it's !problematic to conflate !Linux history w/software freedom history. Seems such is happening at !LinuxCon
-
@bkuhn It's not just happening at !linuxcon though it's a common habit everywhere.
-
-
Why am I annoyed at people calling San Francisco "SFO"? I guess I do that to Raleigh (RDU), but never call NYC "JFK" or Chicago "MID".
-
@quaid, does that mean all Science Fiction must occur in San Francisco? #SF #NameSpaceCollision Yes, I know "Frisco" is RIGHT OUT BTW. :)
-
@bkuhn Oh, we're not calling it #SpeculativeFiction aka #specfic now? Oh, wait, that's still #SF ... thx for knowing #frisco is out :)
