Is the outer volume around a !truecrypt hidden volume any less secure or usable (assuming it's mounted w/ protection)? !infosec !crypto

@supertunaman a while back you asked about !truecrypt copyright. can you explain to me a little bit more about issues?
-
@douglasawh: oh, I see. That is an excellent question...not sure what copyright law says about that.
-
@tonyyarusso curious, do you listen to the Software Freedom Law Show? It's quite good
-
@douglasawh: I haven't gotten around to actually following podcasts yet, no.

Why should we recognize the copyright on !TrueCrypt if its developers are anonymous, and the TrueCrypt foundation has no legal founding?

I earlier spread a rumor that !Dropbox will only sync changed bits of a !Truecrypt container. #fail: it re-uploads the entire file. Sorry!

Dropped #Firefox 3.5 daily build repo. #Ubuntu 9.04 repos now have final #FF3.5 version; one can get it with "apt-get install firefox-3.5".

Does #McAffee play nicely with !TrueCrypt full disk #encryption? #Norton360 bugs. Other #antivirus + #firewall suggestions welcome. !Windows
-
@msanford I believe it does.

Anyone had experience with !TrueCrypt on !Fedora 10? Are there any RPMs about? Fancy potentially screwing my !Linux /home (:
Thursday, 02-Jul-09 12:27:28 UTC from web-
@seawolf TC isn't free so it's not in !Fedora repos, but we have built-in support for LUKS encryption. I use this on my laptop for /home.
Douglas Wilson likes this. -
@seawolf I don't think truecrypt encrypts partitions, just files. just go to their site and d/l the opensuse rpm, it'll probably work fine
-
@stickster Yes, and the license is hideous. Only looking at it as a first foray, someone at work uses it, will look at LUKS after (:

Heard a report about a !TrueCrypt drive randomly failing on !mac (♻ Twitter/@cscan). Has this happened for anyone else, on any platform?

I use !TrueCrypt to store sensitive files on my !Dropbox; it only syncs the changed blocks of the encrypted file container. Very efficient.
