@nathaniel73: think it's grub2 ? - press shift during boot so you get into grub-menu - here you choose your "safe mode"

@avlas: no i only have one monitor - in kde you can configure it via systemsettings - i think in gnome it is the same...

@avlas: I did an update of a kubuntu with nouveau - so I am sure it can work...

Kubuntu upgrade finished - had problems with some config files - so renamed ~/.kde and everything works again...
