@Jim Bowering Usage of the word thug has become popular recently in a certain context (and you aren't alone, even Obama is in that list of usage) but is generally problematic. A word to avoid.
Oh, for goodness sake. I reject the new "meaning" for thug and will continue to use it as I always have, until that becomes untenable. I had never heard of this "controversy," and can't help but suspect that it's a hoax. If people can do this to a word, then we'll soon need to hire professionals to see if it's been done to everything we want to say. Wait a minute, "professionals" might mean something else by now, and I might have just insulted somebody. I hope they don't send any thugs to beat me up.-)
