The Promise of Relational Programming

Christopher Allan Webber at

The coolest / most mind blowing programming talk I've ever seen.

Relational programming will play a huge part of the future one way or another, I'm sure.

I took Dan Friedman's programming languages class at Indiana University, and I know Will Byrd in meatspace.  Dan and Will are the nicest folks you will ever meet, but I am scarred for life by miniKanren.  I could do the homework, but only without a real appreciation of what's actually going on.

MiniKanren is really cool, and I freely admit that I am quite a lousy programmer.  Perhaps I am not qualified to comment on "the future". :-)

I laughed when I saw the relational interpreter spit out "twines": two programs whose output is the other program.  Great talk.

I am embarrassed it wasn't even enough for him to put the ",q" inside the "my-append". He had to do "run 2", and see that it "cheated", before my inner voice went OMG YOU CAN MAKE IT CREATE CODE THAT SATISFIES YOUR TEST SUITE.
