The news was talking about the shutdown of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, which was damaged in the 2001 Nisqually earthquake (yes, it's taken that long to get a replacement in the form of a tunnel), this coming January. They were telling people to prepare for major traffic problems because the viaduct closes three weeks before the tunnel opens. How does that make any sense? It's been damaged since 2001; it could wait a few more weeks beyond the current planned shutdown date to avoid traffic problems.
