still struggling with just getting sound from a web web browser

(outside of wine - wine audio works! - not flash though - though for websites that use mp3 for listening managed to get them to play via vlc for a while - until a browser upgrade caused package management to go crazy and remove it! .. and X too ! .. managed to get x going again though thanks to some backups)

why can't anyone tell me what deamon needs to be running to provide the mysterious gstreamer backend that firefox apparently needs?

how many audio daemons does one need to have running these days?
