I'm tired of all the senseless Ubuntu hating going on in the "general Linux" forums.
Sure, Ubuntu disregards all the "traditional values" other distros are known for. But Ubuntu is the distro that attracts new users -- and developers -- into the world of (GNU/)Linux. Quite some of them will, sooner or later, also switch to a "normal" distro.
And the existence of a "not quite true" Linux OS is not a big price for having more software and drivers written for (GNU/)Linux.

Me too. This hating is just ludicrous. Underneath it is all Linux. Right now am running 12.04 and loving it. Also ran gentoo and arch and debian etc.
The only real grief I have with Ubuntu is their apparent NIH syndrome. (Mir for example looks like a really bad idea to me.)
