Bits from Debian - Work on Debian for mobile devices continues
Work on Debian for mobile devices, i.e. telephones, tablets, and handheld computers, continues. During the recent DebConf17 in Montréal, Canada, more than 50 people had a meeting to reconsider opportunities and challenges for Debian on mobile devices.

@valhalla@identi.ca I don't think the real posibilities on mobile world for Debian due its systemd integration. The last version is laggy and heavier than any other previous version I've seen. On gs someone shared an image of debian 9 which used 1,6 giga ram without any desktop environment, it was crazy...

Never, ever, seen that.

And it certainly makes no sense to assume that whatever was happening to that user, was systemd's fault.

Indeed, I'm using Debian on devices with less memory than that and it's still working with jessie and stretch (and thus systemd) with no memory issues.

Of course, not having a desktop environment doesn't necessarily mean that there are no memory-heavy processes running; it would be interesting to know what was running on that system.

I didn't notice any particular lagginess with stretch either, but then I'm not using Gnome, it may be that its last version is slower / heavyer than the previous ones. The rest of Debian is still unaffected, however.
