I have Mutt use Elinks automatically for messages that only contain a HTML component, but I assume messages with a plain-text component means there was deliberate intention to support plain text. The HTML version should be the same message just with HTML formatting. It's definitely an issue.

In any case, I should also get a pump.io desktop client configured. Thanks for the (implied) suggestion.
