Cyanogenmod install process

Christopher Allan Webber at

Installing Cyanogenmod on this tablet. Following Cyanogenmod makes you really feel like the GNU/Linux free software world has its shit together. Yeah, sure, just download this bootloader off of mediafire, and this other file off of this forum that someone claims is a totally okay working build they made themselves...

I'm sure it's fine right?

Unlocking the bootloader is tricky and may not be fully legal everywhere, so it's understandable to download things from odd places. I blame manufacturers, not rom developers. Once installed cyanogenmod have integrated rom update.

Also since what happened with cyanogen inc, i'm looking for a new candidate to replace cyanogenmod. Any ideas ?

I can't wait until I can install Debian on my phone and tablet :D but I am unsure when this will happen...

@cbains you might be able to do it, check http://www.xda-developers.com/ somebody might already have done it.
Most phones come with ARM processors, alternatively you could install raspbian!

I've never understood why firmware has to be distributed on shady sites. But then again I don't understand why some software is installed via `curl somesite | sudo bash -` either
