I've had problems with gums receding and fillings pop off because I brush too hard. I had a dental assistant tell me I should use an "ultrasonic toothbrush", one that you just press against your teeth and apparently it uses ultrasound technology to clean your teeth. I wasn't happy to do it, because it was a $190 investment, but I did, because I'm tired of having frustrating dental appointments.
After getting the device, I've become very suspicious. It seems to simply be vibrating, it says it needs a (non-florinated!) special expensive toothpaste to work which produces "nanobubbles". What are those? That sounds like pseudoscience BS. Furthermore, pressing it against my teeth I thought, "how could this possibly stimulate my gums, which I know is important?"
I tried doing a search for relevant research on ultrasonic toothbrushes, and as far as I can tell, there is none.
Going to call the dental office and see what's going on, why a member of their staff recommended something that seems like the toothbrush equivalent of homeopathic "medicine".
