Maybe you could replace the pi with a Hummingboard. It uses the same chip as the Novena, the Freescale i.MX6 (single, dual, and quad core varieties), and was made to mimic the pi's form factor. The Novena crowdfunding campaign has funded a free replacement for the blob currently needed to run the GPU, so it looks very promising from a freedom perspective.

David, do you know much about the BeagleBone Black? It is recommended to flash libreboot, but was curious how it stacks up against the Hummingboard in terms of processor and freedom.
