From some microbenchmarks I ran early this morning, it's pretty clear to me that the new Guile performs much better than the latest versions of Ruby and Python, but still can't hold a candle to dynamic languages with native compilation like JavaScript running on V8.  Native compilation for Guile is on the roadmap, so I'm looking forward to seeing how much the gap can be closed.
