It really is bizarre how the proprietary platforms have better *DAV support. It's embarrassing, frankly.
I ended up ordering a second-hand Samsung Galaxy SII, because it's a pretty solid phone for $220 AUD with a *lot* of 3rd party support, including Firefox OS (which at the moment is having issues with STARTTLS in IMAP).
Staying with Android meant I could keep using my Pebble... But my bad experiences with Android meant that I *really* needed to get a decent piece of hardware if I was going to get another Android phone. It's really hard to get a decent Android phone for under $250.
I am using CalDAV/CardDAV-Sync on Android. Not Free, but I choose this non-Free software over having my data on Google/Microsoft/Facebook servers.
