June 13 – Champions League Final Review / Women’s World Cup
Doug: First, I got to see some of Norway demolishing Thailand. It’s interesting that the southeast Asian countries are good in the women’s game. Is it because the Islamic world doesn’t do women’s sports in full or because size doesn’t matter as much in women’s? Japan are, after all, reigning world champs. Vietnam didn’t qualify, but likely would have if the field was 32 like the mens.
Evan: I was  pondering this as well.  U.S. and other countries have been successful in the women’s game by being more “powerful”, but the game has been transitioning to needing more skill than power. Teams like Austrailia and Thailand, probably have equal pace and are getting closer on skill to the U.S., Germany, etc.
“Does this woman not have a man? Her place is in the house.” (THIS IS NOT OUR VIEW, JUST A QUOTE FROM THE ARTICLE.)
8 June 2015
Sweden 3 – 3 Nigeria  Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg
Fun game to watch. Nigeria is QUICK, at least their young forwards are.
United States 3 – 1 Australia Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg
US should have been down early. Hope Solo saved a shot into the crossbar. Wambach is old, Morgan is injured, defense/midfield not holding possession well. They do not look good at this point, but no team has looked great yet. (Norway has the most impressive performance with a draw against Germany).

 12 June 2015
 Australia  Nigeria Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg
 2 – 0
Speed vs. Speed. Will Nigeria be able to follow a gameplan to win?

United States Match 19 SwedenWinnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg
With a win, US would have guarenteed safety. Want to avoid Germany and Brazil as much as possible.
0-0…may not even make it out of group depending on Nigeria game

 16 June 2015
Nigeria Match 31 United StatesBC Place, Vancouver
It’ll be interesting to see if this game means anything. US could be leading the group by 4 points going into this game. Will they rest up/prepare bench players for the knockout stages, or try to keep getting better and better on the pitch (like they need to)?

Australia Match 32 SwedenCommonwealth Stadium, Edmonton
Most likely, the winner here will finish in 2nd place. Sweden may be undone by Australia’s pace.
Both are champions of their leagues this year, but Barcelona was not last year
Evan: Does Buffon deserve to win a Champions League Trophy?
Doug: I don’t know that players deserve to win. Did Stockton/Malone deserve a championship? Did Gerrard deserve a championship (I don’t know, maybe you feel he did). Buffon has won plenty. No one should feel sorry for him.
Evan: Can Juve do it?
Doug: Of course Juve can do it.
Suarez vs Evra and Chiellini
Part of me wishes Suarez had gone to Real Madrid. That would make it much easier to hate him. If he bites someone is banished from football, that makes it easier for Real Madrid to win. It’s like Democrats and Republicans. I guess I should just keep voting for Atletico…
You vote for Atletico and I’ll vote for Valencia and maybe one of us will win.
Who will leave Barca this summer?
They can’t bring people in.
Xavi is off to Al-Sadd SC
No one else’s contract is up.
Who will leave Juve?
Tevez, Pirlo, and Pogba rumors
No current star player is moving to LFC this summer. You can book it. No Champions League? No reason to suspect to Top 4 finish next year? Sterling leaving? No top 100 player is transferring to LFC. Certainly not Tevez or Pirlo.
Top 100? That seems a little harsh. Is Falcao no longer top 100? Falcao isn’t going to LFC. (Edit: It seems Falcao is on his way to Chelsea.)
They did sign Danny Ings and James Milner on FREE transfers. Milner isn’t a top 100 player, though.
