Liverpool’s Winter Transfers Barely Worth an Article

If you thought Manchester United’s winter transfer dealings were a snoozefest, wait until you see Liverpool’s. Assaidi out. Suso out. Ojo loaned out. That’s it.

Assaidi does look like a nice piece of business at £4.7 million, especially since LFC bought him for £2.4 million.

Suso had been much hyped. FIFA 13 had him reach an unlofty 79, but FIFA 14 has him reach 89. FIFA 15 has him back down to 83, but £1,000,000 still seems pretty low. The reason for the low fee is that Suso’s contract was set to expire in July.

Maybe Liverpool is saving their money for big summer signings, but LFC needs to focus on now if they want to be in Europe next year.

Liverpool really needs to win the FA Cup to get into Europe, though winning the Europa League would get them a Champions League spot. Beşiktaş is not a great draw, but the fact that they are distracted by fighting for the Turkish League title certainly gives Liverpool some hope. Certainly Liverpool would seem to have more to gain from the Europa League than Beşiktaş. Aside from that, there are more teams in the Europa League that can reasonably knock Liverpool out than there are in the FA Cup. Only 9 of the 16 teams left in the FA Cup are top tier teams. Two of those teams are third tier, though you would expect Manchester United and even Sunderland, to deal with their League 1 competition at this point in the competition. Unfortunately for LFC, they do have to travel to Crystal Palace for their FA Cup tie.
