An updated PC!

Daniele Primon at

Two weeks agos my PC suddenly stopped working. It was an old Phenom II 495 based one. I started thinking of possibilities to be running again. This is a bit of a burden to make a choice for a replacement hardware especially if you're a folk like me still anchored to hardware from 10 years ago which I picked with the only criteria of attaining to a (very) low budget. My knowledge of assembling a computer is dated to a 20 years ago market. Armed with patience I did a skirmish on eBay and second hand market dedicated websites to find a new upgrade. I told my situation to old friends and that turned out to a good surprise. One of them had a dismissed setup with kind of a similar configuration and donated to me - that revealed to be a a even better setup than mine.

It feels good to go for the better. I mounted all the disks and with a small walk on linux configuration I've been running again! But the surprise didn't finished here. Another friend of mine with a passion for assembly supported my will to act and came to find a good deal for a GTX1080 that I settled yesterday. In the night I mounted the video card and spent some time setting up the drivers and trying a couple of games. It's always a satisfaction when you have knowledge, friends and support to smoothen and resolve the problems.

Now my knowledge increased, my PC is renewed for the better, and I can definetely enjoy some games. It's a celebration!

Many thanks to my friends @Nicola Busanello, Giulio and the folks in #debian, #debian-next @ OFTC.

Next mandatory step: to buy a decent UPS!
