Unpack things as you need them. And a year after you move in, if you haven't opened the box, get rid of it. It'll help the next time you move. ;)

That's great advice, jpope. If I wasn't already a man of few possessions I'd definitely do this when I move in the hopefully near future.
Two moves previously (before marrying and having a kid), I moved around the block (literally). Because of that, I just carried everything. Which meant I carried everything. Got rid of so much excess it was great. Bare essentials. Now with the kid.......
