@Debacle theorically yes, but the client isn't very XMPP-friendly in that sense yet. We are improving it also on that part.

It will install a new app identical to Kontalk 2.2.9 called "Kontalk legacy" that you can use to chat with 2.x users and testing the new beta in the meantime.
