I heard someone from abbot's side banging on about the Australian budget deficit on the BBC world service this morning. It's tiny relative to gdp compared to the uk's, and our budget deficit isn't a real problem in any case.
It was a scare tactic that played well to the clueless and the ignorant. Even their policy announcements during the campaign did very little to address the deficit thus contradicting their stance on it.
