
@apry no federation by itself won't succeed. i don't even have much of a problem with massive silos. i have a problem with them being non-faif. massive faif sites (if they happen to support federation, great) are probably more direct competition to proprietary silos than is federation. consider wikipedia, a massive faif silo, then consider all the proposals for distributed encyclopedias. which one killed encarta? i realize not a perfect analogy, but i think there's a lot to it.
