Seems not on Gnome 3.8 on Jessie, and they've also taken out the option from the tweak-tool settings. Looks like an issue with systemd either being used or not used - a bit out of my technical skill range to understand fully.

This blog post sorted it out though, had to add 'init=/bin/systemd' to my grub config file and all seems to be working now.

Quite pleased I've stuck with sorting out the issues I've had and getting gnome3 working as I'm quite enjoying the UI now I've got used to it.
