Am thinking of moving to an Android tablet, preferably a 7/8" one that can run Cyanogen Mod - any and all suggestions welcomed with open arms!

I've been using the Nexus 7 (the old 2012 model) for a while and I really like it. No need for ugly hacks to jail break it, and Cyanogenmod works like a charm.
I haven't tried the newer Nexus 7 model, though. But check Cyanogenmod forums, it probably works as well.
