@cwebber@identi.ca I have some thoughts on this problem that I'm afraid would spark a rabbithole of controversy. Short version, however, is that traditionally 'terrorism' was defined as a tactic somebody employed to further some political action that they were working toward (working simultaneously on via other means as well). So, by definition, a lone operator or someone doing something perhaps unplanned in reaction to current events is not that. Regardless of their opinions might be on any relevant political issues. It's a distinction on motive for the act and motive for longer-term goals. My impression is that people in government and in long established journalism stick pretty closely to that definition. Because such things change slowly. One could still debate whether or not that definition has changed over the decades, of course; that's a distinct question. -30-
