Which is not to say that there aren't poorly executed AFD joke attempts (that being, ostensibly, what the humorless grouches are railing against, although in reality they're railing against LIFE ITSELF). I would concur that there are a significant number of people with a tone-deaf sense of humor who attempt and fail to mount an April Fools Day joke on any given year. An AFD joke requires a very specific comedic formula (as does a knock-knock joke, to point out a simpler example; you can put "knock knock" at the beginning of any statement and that does not make it a knock-knock joke).

But such is merely the cost of the democratization of publishing. There are also a great many boring blog posts and un-insightful comments published in any 24-hour period.

Complaining about jokes you don't like is like saying you hate Halloween because the kids on your street wear unconvincing costumes. It's really more to do with you than it is the holiday.
