We need serious work done on the various open-font build
tools.
It's great that distros and big projects expect/demand their fonts to be free & open today, but they're just now getting to the point where they also realize that many OFL or Apache-licensed font binaries can't be built, reliably if at all, with the scripts and compilers available.
Which means, unfortunately, that we're still a ways away from them deciding that they need to invest any resources toward fixing that situation.
