Ah, what a bliss it is to be able to hear my HDD! "What‽", you scream. "It ain't no bliss to hear a noisy, old, near-useless disk rattling through the night!"
Indeed, right you are! But it is such a joy not having to hear a dying laptop fan. The relief is even greater if no suitable fans are produced anymore and after couple of hours of night-time tinkering you have just managed to fit something with the right electrical parameters into your laptop. It feels great!
Expect a blog post documenting the result, the tools, and the parts I had (the pictures of those will be deficient: I ain't going to dismantle my creation!) to work with. Furthermore, one can expect me to throw in a few thoughts on open hardware and 3D printing. ☺
