At some point in the last 10 years, I became an expert in reading Form 990s. I realized this fully today when reviewing one and automatically knowing what lines on Schedule D to jump to when reconciling discrepancies from the audited financial statement and 990 parts VIII and IX.

BTW, why the hell does Form 990 have to use roman numerals for Part numbers? It drives me nuts and makes me look stupid when discussing them with people because I can't do Roman Numerals in my head. The number of times I've called the functional expenses worksheet "part ex-eye" out loud, much to my embarrassment, is innumerable.

The world switched to arabic numerals because they are better, IRS. Accountants, of all people, should know that.

Roman numerals remain good for exactly one thing: looking nice on the side of buildings when you want to put the year the building was constructed and/or the place was founded.
