https://matrix.org:8448/ make an account and log in and join #matrix:matrix.org or use the IRC-bridged channel on Freenode #matrix (which is a cool thing they're trying to get right).

There was an LWN article about matrix recently, which is how I stumbled across them. I've got my own homeserver, but only a self-signed cert so most browsers won't use it.
