Renewables bring 31.3% of Spain's power this month - SeeNews Renewables
September 30 (SeeNews) - Renewable power plants produced 31.3% of Spain's power output in September, led by wind farms with 15.2% of total output, said grid operator Red Electrica de Espana (REE).The wind farms generated 3,023 GWh, up 41.8% on the year. Hydroelectric, photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) plants registered shares of 8%, 3.5% and 2.5% of total generation, respectively, followed by thermal renewables with 2.1%.Gross power demand in mainland Spain decreased 3.7% year-on-year to 19,510 GWh. In calendar- and temperature-adjusted terms, the annual decrease was 0.7%.In the nine months through September, renewable power plants represented 38.7% of total output, with 19.1% for wind power alone.According to the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), the country should reconsider some aspects of its energy reform to reactivate investments in wind energy and achieve 2020 EU targets. Spain added no megawatt to its wind power capacity in the first half of 2015, AEE has reported.
