I think my government doesn't understand this "free speech" thing well.

"Free speech" is an absolute thing. Either you're free to say anything -- including things some may consider offensive -- or you're not.

I may disagree with a "liberal" news channel questioning if the Soviet Army should have surrendered Leningrad to the Nazis. I may consider it disgusting. But if the government wants to sue the whole channel for that, I will stand for their right to say disgusting shit I disagree with.

Not to mention that, in this modern era, censorship often works in the exact opposite way. People only become more interested in the forbidden.
