Come to think of it -- we more and more often hear screams of "universal social networks" such as Facebook losing ground in favor of people using multiple networks designed for different purposes -- Twitter for short messages, Instagram for photos and such.
But it looks like distributed social networks almost all follow the Facebook model. I feel like we're going in a wrong direction :(

I already use pump.io for shorter and/or ephemeral stuff, my blog for longer hopefully longer-term stuff, and Mediagoblin for photos :-)
