@Tom: right, I think that (and other Lessig's books suggested to me on Twitter) are very good general texts. On the other end, I find them too be too little Free *Software* specific. They're great to explain the big deal of freedom for creativity, but a bit less so the important of control over machines, that I find so important in Free Software. Any thought on that?
I think I know what you mean, but I can't think of anything specific that scratches that itch. There is no doubt that this issue is of utmost importance and timeliness given the careless disrespect of privacy by governments (esp. mine). I don't mean to be flip, but this kind of itch is what causes new FLOSS projects to come into being ==> perhaps you could write about it? I'd love to read, at least, a blog post on what you think success would look like for this writing.
