A family friend, who is from Sierra Leone, is supposed to go to Freetown in about a week and a half. Her family, here (USA) and there are trying to talk her out of it, but she is insisting on going.
I wouldn't go. I don't think it's being handled like SARS was nor do I think people are just being alarmist. Precautions aren't being taken by the public to the point of rappers taking it upon themselves to release PSA like instructions (DJ Shadow Ebola in town, etc.). That's what's most scary to me.
She points out that she hasn't been home in 20 years, and she's 70 and doesn't know if she'll ever get another chance. Still everyone is telling her to wait 6 months. We'll see, I guess.
Tough call. It's like hanging your clothes out when it's supposed to rain vs. hanging them out tomorrow when nobody has any idea if it's going to rain. Maybe it will, Maybe it won't. It might rain for the next month, but if you don't put your cloths on the line, they'll never have a chance to get dry.
