Frakking Complications

Stephen Michael Kellat at

I'm on furlough from my work at $BUREAU. This has been nice. Having a break is needed from talking to white supremacists who cannot stand the concept of a federal tax system yet want freebies from same said government they don't acknowledge the authority of, talking to people who are literally illiterate that I am not allowed to give referrals to adult literacy programs, talking to people who think 1+1=72 and proudly insist that I'm insane for doing Base10 math in handling taxes, and more. The folks who handle my psychiatric care make plenty of money off my job.

While I'm off I have a little more time to spend on the side efforts I've been handling for the past few months. On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month I head out to a local nursing home and conduct full Sunday worship services on behalf of West Avenue Church of Christ. Attendance by residents isn't bad and they do participate. If anything it is a grounding experience for some of the ones coping with dementia that helps keep them anchored to the present. I only get a little over 30 minutes to conduct service so we have to tune things to address the needs of the elderly congregants at the nursing home.

One of the elders at West Avenue did pose a very important question to me after the funeral begin conducted Saturday. I'm 36 and unmarried...When am I going to settle down and have kids? To that I had no answer. Dating at work is pretty difficult as I live in Ashtabula County and "ultra-commute" to a workplace 63 miles away one-way. The dating scene in Ashtabula County is not very healthy to say the least. I'm one of the ones who went off to one of the church schools and didn't find a mate. Putting career and country first has brought me very little.

Now I'm not exactly ready for bed and stuck with that question. I have been all day. I still don't have an answer for it and that bothers me.

This is a pending "big project", I guess...

you can settle down whenever (and if) you wish, not when society demands ;)
