@Douglas Perkins:

Why no bugs? I think no objective bugs (errors), but from a subjective songwriting perspective, I have bugs in my song where there are areas I want to improve it or ways in which it doesn't communicate what I was trying to communicate. Granted, more subjective issues, and probably more pre-release... but I'd still love version control for the writing process.

Why no merges? Couldn't merges enable collaboration? See ccMixter, for example -- that whole project is basically about merges, no?

One file. What do you mean? The MP3/Vorbis file? That's just the export output, like a binary executable. There are tons of source files for every single audio file that gets output...

One location. What do you mean?

Why wouldn't you want intermediate steps? I'd love to be able to have intermediate steps from other free culture songwriters, to learn from their process, or to take their writing/recording/production and fork it at an earlier stage and maybe take it in a different direction.

I think a lot of these things can apply in different ways.
