Overall great post, though I think one thing missing from there is why Guix uses Deco as an init system, which has to do with Guile integration making adding services to your GuixSD system be a clean experience.

I think that DMD is probably pretty hackable. Hacking DMD inside of virtual machines with Guix is pretty safe.
But even on your own machine, DMD is live hackable, as long as you can brave some threading issues :)
