What colour theme do you use? My rainbow delimiters are less of a rainbow and more of a drab range of pastels.
@Ben Sturmfels I use naquadah, which looks great.
I also turn up rainbow-delimeters-max-face-count and use highlight-parentheses to just highlight the background of the current sexp I'm in.
